One of the greatest pieces of advice I’ve seen for getting on with work and avoid pro-crastinating. Most of the times the pressure of doing it right is what gets to me…this phrase releases that pressure and makes you just do it.
I read somewhere that 99%of stuff is akin to painting a fence, not painting a Picasso…however our perfectionist side often assumes the opposite and is the leading cause of procrastination in many cases.
This phrase just focuses on the doing part without requiring utmost quality…And I’ve discovered quality does come if you are not a dork. It’s mainly a device to set our thinking straight and release the tension.
A common phrase among doctoral students in the dissertation phrase/word which sums it up – “good’nuf”. (e.g. “This comprehensive exam answer is good’nuf.” or “You’ve been working on the proposal for three years now, surely it’s good’nuf by now.”)
Although my last comment failed my own good’nuff check, it should have read, “… in the dissertation phase is a phrase/word which …”.
How funny that you don’t practice what you preach! The first post WAS ‘good-nuf” LOL … Have good day….or I should have said Have A good day!!! : )
Carla
gotta remember to use that in my next meeting now
And as they also say “You never finish the dissertation, you just have to abandon it at some point”
